Job Description

 

Vicar Designate   Bromsgrove Team Ministry

Initially Priest in Charge of Christ Church Catshill and Holy Trinity and St. Mary Dodford

 

Introduction

 

The current parishes covering Bromsgrove, Finstall and Catshill (The urban Bromsgrove district) have agreed to form a new Team Ministry for Bromsgrove. The process to bring this about will extend into 2010. Following the appointment of The Revd. Chris Wingfield as Rector designate two vicars will be appointed to work as a team in anticipation of this re-organization. Each post holder will be initially appointed as priest-in-charge of one or more of the existing parishes and designated vicar of the intended parish. Reference to ‘the parish’ hereafter is to the new single and enlarged team parish.

 

Job Purpose

 

1.     To contribute, as part of the clergy team, to the development of a vision for ministry and mission across the new parish.

2.     As a priest in the parish, with particular responsibility for Christ Church Catshill, and oversight of Holy Trinity and St. Mary Dodford, to lead the people in worship, mission and ministry and to serve the wider surrounding community.

 

Accountability

 

The post holder is accountable to the Bishop of Worcester, through the Team Rector of the Bromsgrove parish, and serves as a member of the clergy team of the new parish.

 

Main Responsibilities

 

As Vicar in the team

 

1.     Development of ecumenical relationships with a view to developing shared patterns of ministry.

2.     Taking a lead on mission and outreach across the parish including

·         pioneering new forms of church

·         working particularly with families and young people within new patterns of worship and church life, not necessarily located in existing buildings of the parish.

·         encouraging church and other links world wide for mutual benefit.

 

As parish priest with responsibility for Catshill and oversight of Dodford:

 

3.     To have particular oversight of the congregations for pastoral care, teaching and nurturing faith and the planning and leading of worship and preaching.

4.     In the case of Dodford to do this in collaboration with local retired clergy, where available.

5.     To provide strategic local leadership in Catshill in exploring Local Ecumenical Partnerships for shared ministry and mission.

6.     To continue and further develop productive partnerships with local schools in Catshill.

7.     To be responsible for conducting occasional offices within Catshill and overseeing the same in Dodford.

 

And more generally

8.     To give attention for time for personal study and renewal in all aspects of ministry.

9.     To attend and contribute to deanery meetings and programmes, including the clergy chapter, and to participate in the life of the diocese, as opportunity allows.

10.  To support the work of Churches Together in Bromsgrove and to play an active part in fostering good relationships and productive partnership with churches and Christians of other traditions.

 

Person Specification

 

Qualifications

1.     A priest of the Church of England or of a church in full communion with the Church of England.

2.     CRB enhanced clearance is required.

 

Experience

1.     A minimum of 3 years accredited ordained ministry.

2.     Experience of working in clergy and lay teams, especially in pioneering situations.

3.     A proven ability and motivation to work both within and beyond church structures.

 

Skills

1.     Collaborative and a good team worker.

2.     An effective communicator, teacher and preacher.

3.     Enthusiasm for ecumenical working and relating Christian faith and practice to society.

4.     Self-motivated and able to work in situations which cross boundaries of traditional Christian ministry.

5.     An ability to establish rapport with a wide range of people – Christians and non-Christians – in a variety of contexts.

6.     An ability to reflect theologically on work undertaken and the context in which ministry occurs, and communicate insights to a wide audience.

7.     The capacity to travel

 

 

Terms and benefits

1.     The appointee will hold a licence from the Bishop of Worcester.

2.     The appointee will have incumbent status and receive a full incumbent’s stipend and be part of the Church of England non-contributory pension scheme.

3.     Accommodation will be provided. The appointee will occupy the Catshill vicarage situated at 403 Stourbridge Road, Catshill. B61 9LG

4.     Agreed full expenses will be paid.
